Cynthia Gay, B.A.

Director

Cynthia has worked with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 10 years professionally.  She is the proud sister of a young man with Down Syndrome who inspired her from the very first day they met to launch her career as an advocate for inclusion in her community and across the country for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Cynthia joined Best Buddies in 2006 as a high school program manager and later was promoted to serve as the program supervisor for Best Buddies Miami where she supervised program managers and organized the Best Buddies Miami Advisory Board.  In 2009, Cynthia became the Best Buddies Miami area director where she led the Miami team to successfully implement the Best Buddies programs and fundraising initiatives in Miami.  In 2010 she joined Best Buddies International as the first deputy director of state expansion; she focused on recruiting, cultivating and overseeing efforts to raise the funds needed to establish state offices.

Through her career at Best Buddies Cynthia saw the impact residential programs had on the individuals she was working with at Best Buddies.  She visited many group homes and saw that the first step for success for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities starts at home.  In 2010, Cynthia and her family began their work to open their first group home in Miami and that dream became a reality when they opened their doors in July 2011 with the opening of Dream Team Group Home.

Cynthia earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Spanish from Florida International University.  She is an inductee to the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, an active member of the Delta Phi Epsilon South Florida Alumnae Association, a member the Miami Dade County Public Schools Special Education Transition Task Force and serves on the Miami Dade County Public School Superintendent Advisory Panel.  She also is a proud volunteer for Special Olympics, Best Buddies and the American Cancer Relay for Life.
